About
The Wickenburg Historical Preservation Society came into existence in 2001, at the request of then Wickenburg Mayor, Larry (Roach) Roberts. The purpose of the group was to acquire, manage, operate, and preserve property of historical significance in and near the Town of Wickenburg, Arizona, and to encourage historical education and awareness in the community.
The first project was the restoration of the last known residence of Henry Wickenburg and the surrounding property. After the untimely death of Mayor Roberts, talks ensued about tearing down the house due to safety issues. The historical society petitioned the Town for ownership of the house and property with the vision of a small museum to educate the public on the history and culture of the area.
In 2006 the Wickenburg Historical Preservation Society took possession of the property and completed the requirements for placing the Wickenburg-Boetto property on the National and State Historic Registry. We’ve been going “full bore” ever since thanks to our dedicated volunteers, members and donors.
